Rise of Mangal Pandey
On July 19, 1827, Mangal Pandey was born in Nagwa, a township in the upper Ballia district, to a Brahmin family. His father, Divakar Pandey, was a laborer. At 22, he decided to join the East India Company troops. Then he was assigned to the 6th Regiment of the 34th Bengal Local Infantry as a soldier. Why did Mangal Pandey Oppose the British?

Mangal Pandey conducted the sepoy mutiny and finally led to the 1857 insurrection. The main motive for the Sepoy Mutiny was indeed a newer version of the bullet barrel utilized in the Enfield P-53 rifle. The advent of the ‘Enfield’ rifle was one of the key causes of the 1857 insurrection. It had to be chewed off before inserting the cartridge into the pistol.
